Our fuzzy friend Desmond visited us today for his Distemper vaccination! Distemper (CDV) is a virus that commonly affects dogs, however ferrets are also susceptible to infection. The virus is commonly spread through the shared air and bodily fluids of infected animals, though can also be brought home to your pet on your shoes and clothing. CDV initially presents through discharge from the eyes, a fever and crusting of the skin. Untreated, CDV can lead to bacterial infections or fatal damage to the central nervous system.

Thankfully, ferrets can be vaccinated for CDV just like their canine friends! Desmond's family can now feel safe in knowing his health is properly protected. If you have a ferret family member at home who is unvaccinated, please give us a call on (02) 6922 5375 to book them in for their Distemper jab.
